Oh, baby ..
It's been a long time since I wrote about portrait photography, so I'm delighted to be able to show you this photograph and say .. my new studio is up and running!
Some friends popped in yesterday for a quick shoot .. and a chance for me to get my bearings again after a gap of so long. I thought it was appropriate that my first photographs were of a new-born and I'm really happy with the way things went. Oh, baby .. it feels good!

Aim high, kids ..
Here I am, aiming high and obviously wanting to go places! Incredible for me to believe but it's - almost exactly to the day - 40 years since I left school. May 1976, just at the start of one of the hottest ever summers and that was me done. I was out of there like a shot, not quite as young as I am in this photo but still a mere 15 year old schoolboy with the words of my careers teacher ringing in my ears. When he asked me what I wanted to do when I left school I told him I wanted to be a photographer. His encouraging reply? "Be realistic!"..
It took me only two more years before I was a professional photographer ..

It's a sign ..
Oooh, it's the big day! Today I sign on the dotted line and take possession of the unit that will very soon be my new studio! How exciting! And the signs are good that it'll be a success, too. I've already had .. wait for it .. three Wedding enquiries, two baby photo session requests, a business portrait enquiry and have spoken to a lady who wants me to renovate some old photographs of her grandparents! Brilliant! The very fact that people know about a photographer setting up in the village is already generating business, and it just proves what I've known for quite a while, obvious though it sounds .. I need premises! I can have all the sample Wedding albums in the world, all the acrylic frames, all the canvas prints .. but they're useless unless someone can see them! Well, from July they'll be able to! Just got to sort out the unit first! Now let's see: Strip the wallpaper, fill the holes, paint the walls, fix the blinds and backdrops, make a sign...
