Jets, dreams and steam ..

Another great day out yesterday at RIAT, the RAF's Fairford Air Show and, as promised, another amusing snoozing selection from the event .. oh, and some planes! As mentioned in Saturday's Blog, I just don't get how people can pay all that money, travel all that way and .. fall asleep! Anyway, great event, and quite probably the last time I'll ever see the Vulcan flying. I do hope some of these people woke up in time to watch that momentous event!..

So, beetroot-headed and sore-legged, it's time to get my feet back on the ground and concentrate on work! It's a really good PR week this week with various clients including an insurance company and a building firm. I'm also doing a 'Steam-Punk' fashion portrait session which, from a quick scour through Google, seems to involve the wearing of clothes inspired by 19th Century steam-powered machinery. Ok? I'm definitely not going to sleep through that..

Sssshhhh.......

It was lovely that my blog got such a good response yesterday, with almost twice my average number of readers checking out the piece about David. Thank you ..

Mid July means it's time for my annual trip to the Snooze-athon that we called the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but I never cease to be amazed at how many people travel all the way down there, pay damn-near fifty quid for a ticket .. and then fall asleep! What's the bloody point of that? I mean, it's not as if it's exactly quiet at an air show, is it?! I shall endeavour to capture more snoozers for you tomorrow! Have a nice weekend..

Sleep well ..

Ok, so when I said I'd photographed an Apache helicopter raid .. it was, of course, at the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire! Well, you didn't think I'd gone to Afghanistan or anything, did you? Heck, I had a Wedding on the Saturday. Who's got time to go covering wars?..

Still amazes me, though, that people .. quite a lot of people .. spend over forty quid, travel to a super-large airfield in the middle of nowhere and .. go to sleep! The snoozer in the montage was shot in the middle of the Red Arrows display, and I've got shots of a man lying zonked out as the Tornado did its stuff, two women fast asleep during the Typhoon display and even a guy reading his Kindle as an F16 went through its paces!..

Still, I'm only jealous! I was somehow talked into camping overnight on the evening before the show - the first night I've spent 'under canvas' since 1976 - and the trouble was, we managed to pitch the tents right next to the noisiest snoring I have ever heard!! Nine hours solid of snorky, rasping grunts! So, for me .. Sleep? At an air-show? Oh, if only!..

About the weather...

Apologies if you're reading this in some sun-soaked hot place (Patricia!) but yes, today I have to talk About the weather. What a wash-out, and I really feel for any couples who chose this weekend to get married. There's just no telling as to when you might reasonably expect a lovely summer's day anymore, is there? My advice to people thinking of getting married in the summer is to choose a venue with lots of room .. indoors!

I was lucky in a way, as I didn't book any Weddings this weekend so that I could make my annual pilgrimage to the air tattoo at RAF Fairford. Here's a shot of brave pair making the most of it there!

Of course, if you really want cheering up, you could click the weather link above and get down to some groovy music by Magazine! Anyone for emigration?

Fair enough, Fairford...

Just back from a four-day blast of a trip that culminated in a visit yesterday to RIAT 2011, the Royal International Air Tattoo, at RAF Fairford. Appalling weather in the morning, resulting in quite a few cancelled displays, but scorching sunshine in the afternoon (I have the sunburn to prove it!) and a great programme of flying in the end.
Fair enough, Fairford!

I can't help, though, but try to emulate my award winning photograph of the Red Arrows every time I see them, but I have to say I'm quite pleased with this one this year! No photoshop trickery here, by the way! Gosh, how very dare you!

Lots more to follow on Flickr....
